Beware the Believers

Guess what!  Michael Edmonson, who worked on the Expelled movie, has taken credit for the creation of the hilarious Beware the Believers video. Bloggasm has the scoop.

I hadn’t heard of this. I enjoyed it very much. I have a question, though: why is it that Americans seem to have such incredible resentment for people who are smarter than they are? Aren’t you supposed to WANT scientists and senators and doctors and presidents to be smarter than you are? I feel much less secure when I know that I’m smarter than (for example) the President of the USA. What are your thoughts?

I loved the video. We spoke about Dawkins a little and that prompted me to do a little research on his views. I’m surprised to find that he’s an outspoken advocate of atheism, because there don’t seem to be many of those. However, I also think that such a stance easily gets in the way of more important things, like evolution as a whole.

I never get tired of watching this.

Neither do, Taishlez. Neither do I.

I’m not sure, Chris. I haven’t really given this much thought. Maybe it’s because so many people are smarter than so many Americans? :-)

Maybe it’s our strong focus on the individual. Our drive to compete, to have the biggest, the best, the most expensive toys.

    Josiah,

Yeah, Dawkins is pretty into that. They are a small but growing part of the population. There’s probably more than you think, depending on how many you think there are.

As for that getting in the way of more important things, I guess it depends on who you talk to. I’m a huge fan of biologist Dawkins. I almost completely ignore atheist Dawkins. But for many people, especially Creationists, it’s a convenient convenient reason to vilify him.
