I always find it amazing that people who hate the idea of evolution actually KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT.

  2. Jason Says:

It’s so true. I’ve never heard an argument against evolution that wasn’t a complete misrepresentation of it.

Don’t even try reading Ray Comfort’s blog, unless you hate yourself. I hate myself, btw.

  3. Rando Says:

NOOO! It’s like garlic to a vampire. Jason, I’m an atheist, but it is refreshing to see a Christian such as yourself wallowing through Ray’s blog. The Ray Comfort Christians have completely divorced themselves from the realities of the natural world. If it is possible to inject some scientific sense into them, people who have managed to reconcile science with their faith seem more likely to have an impact than us hordes of godless heathens:) I know I wasn’t experiencing much success.

Keep up the good work for as long as you can stomach it. I’ve realized that reading his blog is a masochistic habit which probably isn’t too good for your long term mental health. :) It’s best taken in small doses.

    Cheers

    Rando!

Thanks, that means a lot to me.

As a former YEC, I feel a kind of Peter Parker-like obligation to try to help these people. And, like Peter Parker, no one wants my help, and the authorities think I’m a bad guy. O:-)

I have hope that some people might listen to reason because of the simple fact that I did. I used to be obsessed with creationist material in high school. I was just as smug as the RCCs.

Thanks for coming to my website! I love you. And Jesus loves you BUT I GUESS YOU’RE TOO IN LOVE WITH SIN OR WHATEVER.

Are you familiar with the pineapple argument and the peanut butter argument?

  6. Jason Says:

    Ha, that’s great!

  7. Rando Says:

Haha. Well everyone knows the only reason anyone accepts evolutionary theory is that we are too in love our sins. I have such a wildly hedonistic lifestyle. I usually come home from work and hang out with my wife, read, or watch the Discovery channel. Now that I think about it the Discovery Channel is just one of the long tentacled arms of Big Science’s conspiracy to indoctrinate old earth and evolutionary lies among our nation’s youth. I wouldn’t be surprised by a future Comfort Food post on this topic.

It’s good to know that YEC beliefs can be overcome. Examples like yours give me hope for the others. I never grew up in that environment and I imagine it would be pretty difficult to change your mind about such things.

    Have a great day.

Reminds me of this awful, awful cartoon: http://www.answersingenesis.org/aftereden/view.aspx?id=220

I think I was lucky because, although my mom was kind of a half assed fundie, didn’t really push it on me very hard. She did encourage an interest in science from a young age, though.

But my grandmother and my friends in middle and high school were extremely fundie, and they were a strong influence on me.

Have you ever had a dream about Ray or any creationist leaders?

  9. Rando Says:

Yeah, those AIG cartoons are all painfully unfunny.

I don’t usually remember my dreams, but if Ray Comfort ever pops up in one and I do remember it, I’m going to blame you!

  10. Jon Acuff Says:

Hey, thanks for posting comments on my site, stuff Christians like. I dig yours. If I were going to read one book on evolution, which one would you suggest?
    Jon

  11. Other Jason Says:

The more “evidence” these guys give against evolution, the angrier I get. If I was gamma-enhanced, I might crack this damn planet in half. Nobody wants that.

That peanut butter thing James linked to is astounding. What is the guy expecting to see in his peanut butter if new life does form in it? Unlikely as it is, any “new life” that would be created in peanut butter would be completely undetectable. Anyone should know that.

  12. Jason Says:

    Rando:

If you do, I’d love to post them! I recently had a dream in which I had a drive Ray around somewhere. It might have been Ken Ham…

I also once had one where I thought Ken Ham sent someone to break into my house.

    Jon:

Thanks a lot! Your website is really cool! Everyone go check it out! http://www.stuffchristianslike.net/

It’s hard to choose just one book. I will give you two.

If you want a good overview that presents lots of fossil evidence, try Evolution: What The Fossils Say and Why It Matters.

If you want to read about something more specific and not really geared toward proving that evolution happened, try At The Water’s Edge: Fish With Fingers and Whales With Legs.

Both are linked to on the sidebar to the right.

    Other Jason:

I totally know how you feel. Mike Harris says that I’m very masochistic for reading as much of it as I do.

Does that guy really think the very first organism would have been macro??? What a douche!!

Has everybody seen the argument from oranges?

Also, I cannot tell you how pleased I am at all this comment activity! Thank you guys so much!

    Jon:

For a quick read, I recommend “Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5 Billion-Year-Old History of the Human Body” by Neil Shubin. It is very engaging account of the recently discovered transitional fossil Tiktaalik rosae. It is only about 200 pages in length.

    Jason,

The orange guy was mind-numbing. I like your site, and you seem to be a pretty cool dude. I’ll pop in more frequently during the times I get fed up with Ray’s rants. I think my wife is getting tired of me bothering her with the inanities I hear over there. I need someone to commiserate with!

  14. Jason Says:

I forgot about Your Inner Fish. That one’s pretty good too.

I’d like that, Rando. My wife is getting tired of it too! She has asked me not to tell her the dumb things people say, because it makes her too angry.

Jason, please…stop ruining my fantasy relationship with Mike Seaver. Kirk Cameron does not exist…Kirk Cameron does not exist…Kirk Cameron does not exist…
