Roadtrip 2007 | Day 2

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

In the July month of 2007, my wife and I took a road trip from Seattle, WA to San Diego, CA with stops in between.

This is Day 2. The first stop in the morning was to Sea Lion Caves. It was great!! You go down a long elevator hewn into a cliffside, and you emerge into a cave that’s open to the sea. In this cave are dozens, if not hundreds, of Stellar’s sea lions. They are LOUD AND AWESOME.

Then we drove some more and happened upon some roadside safari thing. It was like a petting zoo that also had predators in cages. It was fairly obvious that they were not well taken care of, especially the predators and the chimpanzees.

We camped in Crescent City, CA, just south of the Oregon border. The campground was in a redwood forest, and it was beautiful.

And then we had dinner.

Roadtrip 2007 | Day 1

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

In the July month of 2007, my wife and I took a road trip from Seattle, WA to San Diego, CA with stops in between. Going south we took our time on US 101 and did lots of exploring. On the way back we took I-5. There is nothing to do on I-5.

This is Day 1. We left Seattle very early in the morning, and did our best to get to Newport, OR by 3pm to take the free daily tour of the Rogue Brewery. We barely made it. The tour wasn’t that great. The tour guide acted like she wasn’t getting paid. It was really rushed, but I was glad for the opportunity to see the birthplace of so many of my favorite beers.

Then we found a campground, set up our tent, and ate a dinner of fish and chips. Or as Jen calls them, fishenchips.

The Death of a Dear Friend

Monday, September 17th, 2007

On Saturday, September 15, 2007, my beloved pet, friend, and child, Gato, passed away from the respiratory ailments that had been plaguing her for so long. I love her and miss her very much. She lived for almost 3 years, which is a lot for a rat; she’s lived on both coasts of the United States; she was a Hurricane Katrina evacuee; and she’s flown on a plane. Not many pet rats get to fly on planes. These are some photos of Gato during the first month that we had her in March and April of 2005.
